South Lake Fire Safe
Council’s (SLFSC) 2009 calendar is still available free to
local residents from any fire station in South Lake County Fire
Protection District while supplies last.
Created by Laura Lamar, MAX Design Studio in Middletown, the
calendar includes fire-safe lesson plans and was distributed to
second and third graders in the Middletown Unified School
District.
“The calendar highlights a different emergency situation and
solution each month,” said Dr. Korby Olson, school
superintendent, who partnered with the SLFSC and approved the
calendar’s lesson plans. “Wild fires are a fact of life in
our district, and our students need to be well informed and
prepared to handle wild fire emergencies.”
Lake County Air Quality Control Manager Bob Reynolds says the
calendar is a good resource. “It reminds the community to be
sure to burn only brush and vegetation, and only after obtaining
a burn permit,” he said. Burning any hazardous material is
against the law. Questions about burning can be answered by the
country’s Air Quality Control Department at (707) 263-7000.
Interested community volunteers are invited to monthly meetings
of the South Lake Fire Safe Council held the first Saturday of
each month at 10 a.m. at the South Lake Fire Protection District
fire station, 21095 Highway 175, Middletown.
